FACULTY OF ENGINEERING 

  DEGREE PROGRAMMES (Weekend and Regular Sessions)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Qualification                                                         

A. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE)

Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects (Elective Mathematics, Physics and Either Chemistry OR Biology OR Applied Electricity OR Electronics OR Technical Drawing or any other relevant subject).

B. West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects (Elective Mathematics, Physics and Either Chemistry OR Biology OR Applied Electricity OR Electronics OR Technical Drawing or any other relevant subject).

C. Certificate from Technical Institutions

Certificate II holders: Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus three (3) relevant trade courses (Electrical and Electronic Principles, and any two of; Installation Technology and Regulation, Practicals/Project or Technical Drawing). Applicants will be admitted to the First Year of the programme.

D. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advance Level Candidates

Five (5) credits at O’ Level including English and Mathematics, plus

EITHER  Passes at A’ Level in: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Physics with an O’ Level credit in Chemistry.

OR

Passes at A’ Level in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

E. Electrical Engineering Technician Part III (EET III)

 Applicants with post EET III working experience in the relevant field will be added advantage. Successful            applicants will be admitted to the First Year of the programme.

F. Higher National Diploma

Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e. at least 2nd Class Lower Division) in the following or similar programmes: Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Science shall be admitted into level 300.

G. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

1. All foreign qualifications shall be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to the Institution.

2. Applicants with WAEC qualification can apply directly to the University.

3. Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicant from non -English speaking countries.  International applicants are also requested to acquire Non-Citizens Ecowascard as a pre-requisite for regularization of admission. International applicants who fail to provide evidence of having acquired this card will not have their admissions regularized.

 

Bachelor of Technology, Automobile Engineering

Qualification

A. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE)

Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

B. West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE):
Credit Passes (A1 -C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects, including English Language Integrated Science and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

C. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates:

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and an Arts subject.

D. Professional and Other Entry Qualifications

All professional certificates and any other qualifications beyond the ones specified above shall be referred to the National Accreditation Board for the establishment of their equivalences, to determine their eligibility for admission to the University.

E. Higher National Diploma

Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e., at least 2nd Class Lower Division) in             Automobile or any related field. Successful applicants shall be admitted into level 300.

Bachelor of Technology, Civil Engineering

Qualification

A. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE)

Grade D or better in three (3) Core Subjects (English Language, Mathematics (core), Integrated Science, or Social Studies) and three (3) elective subjects.

B. West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects (English Language, Mathematics Core), Integrated Science, or Social Studies) and three (3) elective subjects.

C. Technical / Vocational Institutions

  1. Final Construction Technician Certificate (CTC 2/3) Candidates must have, in addition, GCE ‘O’ level passes in English and Additional Mathematics or SSSCE   / WASSCE passes in Core English and Elective Mathematics or GCE four (4) credit passes: Where possible, appropriate course exemptions may be granted for the program.
  2. Final/advanced Craft Certificate in Block Work & Concreting

Candidates must have, in addition, a minimum of 3 SSSCE/WASSCE passes in Core English, Elective Mathematics and Elective Physics or 3 GCE `O' level passes in English, Additional Mathematics and Physics.

  1. Construction Technician Part 2

Candidates must have, in addition, a minimum of 4 SSSCE/WASSCE passes including Core English, Elective Mathematics and Elective Physics, or 4    GCE ‘O’ level passes including English, Additional Mathematics and Physics or OTD Civil Engineering.

D. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English language, mathematics and a science subject (from non-science students) and Arts subject for science students.

E. Higher National Diploma

Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (i.e., at least 2nd Class Lower Division). addition, the applicant must have acquired a 1-year post-HND qualification working experience. Other Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.

F. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

1. All foreign qualifications shall be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to the institution.

Bachelor of Technology, Agricultural Engineering

Qualification

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) Agricultural Engineering certificate with a minimum of second class (Lower Division).  Applicants must have at least one (1) year industrial experience.
